Rice Kracker Girl

Rice Kracker Girl is a personal narrative meant to share, amuse and hopefully inspire.  This blog's mantra is Better Starts with Me.  It is my creative outlet for sharing my self-improvement experiments.  Here are some examples of what you find on this blog:

Reflections:  This is the heart of the blog. My thoughts, hopes and goals, which I try to arrange in a reflective and hopefully amusing narrative.

Recreation: All the activities I do for fun!  CrossFit, yoga, running, hiking, snowshoeing and I am sure there are more to come!

Made It & Ate It:  I love food and I like to share deliciousness!   I grew up in a culture where food is more about love and connection than nourishment and sometimes that trumps nutritional logic. But the majority of my recipes are paleoish.

Reading:  I read a lot- books, eBooks, blogs and of course the interweb.  I will attempt to help sort out all those words and recommend some good stuff.

Out & About: Spoiler alert I am not out partying every night, I am rather a homebody. But if I go somewhere cool, I promise to tell you about it.

Favorite Things:  Sometimes I want to give a shout out to things that are awesome!

About Me:

Aloha! I’m Rani. I grew up in Hawaii and have lived in California for over a decade.  I am a food enthusiast, a state employee, a MBA graduate and a wanna-be kitchen wizard.  I enjoy outdoor adventures- hiking, biking, running and snowshoeing. I CrossFit, run and yoga. I love to read, learn new things and eat delicious food.  I am also a thirty-something cliché for starting a blog and am totally okay with that J

What’s the story behind the name “Rice Kracker”?

The name is from an almost business collaboration with my sister. She would make the goods and I would sell them.  My name starts with “R” and hers with “K,” so we picked a business name that represented both of our names.  Another layer of meaning refers to being hapa (the Hawaiian word for being mixed race).  We are half Japanese (the rice) and half white (the kracker). Growing up in Hawaii made being hapa easy, ideal almost. I think being part of multiple cultures has strongly impacted my perspective and mindset in a positive way.  So the name Rice Kracker reflects on key components of my personal identity- growing up in Hawaii, being hapa and my interest in business.
